Hypocrisy, thy name is…

North Carolina State Senator R.C. Soles used a firearm to defend himself from a home invasion.  Soles, 71, shot and wounded one of two assailants as they kicked in his front door.

Sounds like a simple case of a prepared citizen using a handgun to defend himself right?

As Paul Harvey used to say, here’s the rest of the story.

R.C. Soles, a Democrat State Senator, is one of the most outspoken anti-gun legislators in North Carolina.  He consistently receives an anti-gun rating from GrassRoots GunRights North Carolina.

Senator Soles is the worst kind of hypocrite.   He’s perfectly willing to use a gun to defend himself and his loved ones, but has spent his political career trying to prevent law-abiding citizens in North Carolina from defending themselves with a firearm.

“…the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.” (Amendment II)

“The claim and execize of a constitutional right cannot be converted into a crime.” Miller v. U.S., 230 F 2d 486.489.

Any anti-gun “law” is null and void. Perhaps Soles should be considered null and void.

How do these folks get voted in with so many opposing their views. I have not heard of one person that would admit to voting for Obamma so far and everyone that I speak to has nothing good to say about our government. Certainly, a coalilition needs to be formed, but how, when it seems that the majority of folks that can and will speak out are busy supporting their families and working to just make a living. It seems that the troubles begin with the lobbiest that have time to cohearse lawmakers to see their side and why not? No one is there to oppose them. I have never been more proud of a representative as Joe Barton, in Texas. He and his office personnel, at the very least, will answer the damn phone and listen. They helped me personally this year. You do not get that often. There’s you a start!!!

  • they should use every anti gun law he passed or wanted to pass against him and throw him in jail , run him through the courts til he has no money or clout left, let him see what it feels like to be unjustly persecuted the way he would have liked to do to everyone else!!!

  • i am sick and tired of these anti gun politicians. Also somebody keeps spreading this HR-45 bill it died it had no cosponcers, its been circulatinbg since 2000.

The first place any average citizen needs to go to reform is to the family courts and the TOTALLY unconstitutional and backdoor disarming of the average citizen. All a woman has to do is claim they are “scared” of a person and they can get a retraining order for 3 years that forbids (without any proof of wrongdoing) the accused (again never judged or convicted) person from having a gun or ammunition for at least 3 yrs. This is thanks to the Leutenberg amendment that is attached to all “temporary” restraining orders. In CA it is becoming the new scam for women to date or live with men (especially law enforcement and military) and then if dumps get back at them by getting a restraining order. In the case of those in jobs requiring a weapon (such as law enforcement and military) it effectively deprives them of employment and many times a career is destroyed. Again, based on NO PROOF and used by vendictive women, attorneys etc. to gain revenge and the upper hand in a breakup or divorce. THIS IS WRONG, WRONG, WRONG and needs to be STOPPED.

You must remember that most politicians are HYPOCRITES and basically STUPID.

Don, yes very much, and since they have power too, that makes them dangerous.

  • anne

I really wish you guys would be a little more sensible. But no, that’s impossible. Your answer to anyone who has a different view is “THEY ARE STUPID AND HYPOCRITES”.
No, those of us with different views are not. The second amendment was not meant to include assault rifles, or to protect the ‘right’ of the mentally ill to have guns. There is a concept of the greater good. Perhaps if you don’t live in a city, and isolate yourself from all others to begin with, you could not grasp this. But we all need to live together, and I prefer, that if you disagree with me on health care, we discuss it. If you show up with a gun strapped to your leg (thanks NRA!!) it’s not a conversation, it’s bullying and intimidation. But I guess if you can’t articulate your views, it’s easier to wave a gun.

  • I certainly hope everyone remembers comes November. Maybe we can clean house of all the rep’s supposedly looking after our interests. Many of these politicians have been in place way to long, we need
to show them that every job isn’t guaranteed for life.

  • Carolyn

One thing that I have noticed is that hypocrites, bullies, corrupt, sociopath, controlling people, extortionists, those who like to threaten and break the law, and liars do not want anyone to have a gun or anyway in order to defend himself/herself. These corrupt and lawless people will illegally do everything within their power in order to try to make the ends justify the means of illegal agendas. One can see that he is the ususal hyprocite.

  • John E. Roulanaitis, SR.

I have began to believe, that being a liar and a hypocrite is a mandatory requirement in becomimg a member of the good ole political ranks. If one is not as such, before elected, it is not long thereafter, that they become greedy of being left out of the system and enter into the level of such.

How many more years are the American citizens going to have to endure the ivy league silver thoated brilliance of promises and the baffling BS from the life time cesspool politicians, that currently have infested the Congress of the United States ?

It far past time, that those said elected servants of the American citizens, be reminded, that they were elected to office to represent their constituency and not the Democratic or Republician parties. It is far past time, that the elected officals be reminded of their Oath or Affirmanation of Office as to defending the predervation and enforcement of the Constitution of the United States.

It appears,in a majority of situations, that the mayority of politicians only beleive, that the Constitution is only for their indivual benefit and not hat of the general population of this nation.

It far-far past time that a fumigation process come to the front to rid and/disinfect the Congress of United States of all of the political parasites, that are slowly bringing this nation to her knees through corruption in office. It far-far-far past time, that this nation be returned to a government of the people, by the people and for the people.

The bill of rights, every one of them, was written by the founders to protect the individual. Even if their was no 2nd amendment I have the god given right to defend myself and my family from anyone who attempts to harm or kill or steal from me. The founders drew from the concept of “natural law” that goes back to Cicero and other great thinkers throughout history to create the constitution and the bill of rights. An armed public is the last defense against an over bearing federal government. If the people are afraid of the government, that is tyranny (welcome to America 2009). When the government fears its citizens, (are you listening, heir Pelosi?) that is LIBERTY!

  • Dan

So what else is new? This has always been the case – Barbara Boxer, Diane Feinstein, (Anti-Gun Senators -California) and most of the Hollywood celebraties are either armed (CCW Holders) or have armed body guards “Because they are important” – unlike the unwashed masses – we are not important enough to preserve our own lives! But then the MEDIA NEVER talks about any DOUBLE STANDARD of any kind!~

  • To me protecting my life, with a firearm, is more important to me than all the lives of out governing officials all rolled up into one. I would help you financially if I could afford to do so. Raye.

There needs to be more of these kind of people exposed. They want to take away our second amendment rights unless they are involved. I hope the people in North Carolina have enough sense to vote this jerk out of office next election.

Are you SURE about the RC Soles story? I e-mailed RC Soles (like it said to do) and I got a reply (see below) that claims he is an advocate of the 2nd Amendment and that he favors the use of guns for personal AND property protection (again, see below). I kind of need to know who’s right and who’s wrong here. If he is an anti gun guy, then I need to see something that disproves what he wrote back to me because it sure as hell sounds a lot different than what I was told about this guy in the gun rights advocates e-mail.

    Here it is in whole;

Thank you for your recent email. Let me be clear: I have been a strong supporter of the Second Amendment throughout my legislative career. Just last year, the National Rifle Association awarded me a lifetime score of “A” for my consistent voting record in favor of the right to bear arms. This session, I supported the “Castle Doctrine,” which would allow homeowners to defend their property from threatening intruders with defensive force. In the North Carolina Senate, I will continue supporting law-abiding gun owners and sportsmen and any information you have to the contrary is incorrect.
    Sincerely,
    R. C. Soles, Jr.

So, if this guy is full of shit, let me know and I’ll e-mail him back and put him in his place, but if I was misled with bogus information, all that did was make me AND you guys look like bafoons. We need to have our facts straight before we go slamming people that don’t deserve it. I don’t reside in South Carolina. I am on the west coast in California (the state of confusion as I like to call it), so I could use some ACCURATE information about this guy and where he REALLY stands.

This is one of the problems with the internet. There are so many e-mails that include half truths and non factual statements in them, that it is very hard to know what is good info and what is not. By all rights we should all take the time to do some real leg work to find out what is accurate. To be able to make phone calls and talk to real live, competant people would be great. However, those of us that have to work 50 plus hours a week to make a living, do not have the time for that. Thus comes the ease of the internet and all that comes with it. The thing that I know is that our god loving country is in very serious trouble, and that we have an obligation to our parents and children to something to get back on track. I know that some of the ridiculous back and forth that goes on does nothing in resolving any of the major issues. It is of my oppinion that we need to organize a method of working together to find out what the true facts are and start the process of taking back our country. Find people that are willing to actually do their part, unbiased, in this process. I am 100% for the 2nd ammendment and feel that this is one of the major issues that we need to protect, however, i also think that if we get to intent on one focus, we won’t get to see the whole game. The government is playing the greatest slide of hand in history and we are letting it happen. Sorry for the rambling, I am just looking for the group of people that would like to really do something for our country, rather than just talk about it.

  • Bring 'em on baby!

So what I want to know is… who’s not telling the truth here OR… who is bending the truth to make themselves appear better? If I got duped by false or misleading information from NAGR and I e-mailed that guy, (and I really tore him a new ass hole for being a hyprcrite), then I am going to be pretty pissed and will lose ALL respect for this organization, not to mention it makes ALL of us look like total and complete BAFOONS. Yah, that’s just what we need. We’re fighting a constant battle with these gun grabbing IDIOTS and lets make ourselves look like a bigger bunch of idiots by attacking people that “appear” to be gun rights supporters that the NRA approves of. On the other hand though, if that senator is lying, then I am going to rip him a new one BIG TIME in a big, public way.

  • Bring 'em on baby!

Whoever moderates this site AND whoever wrote that article needs to lay down some information on just HOW this R.C. Soles Jr. guy votes against guns and gun rights. No where on Google can I find anything thatthis guy is against guns, and it seems many others on here ran into the same scenario. Put the proof out for us or don;t write articles like that and get us all fired up! We trusted you for ACCURATE and TRUTHFUL information and it “appears” that you NAGR might just be the hypocrites in this case if you can;t cough up the proof we are looking for on this guy.

And by the way “Anne” who posted on October 3rd that said the 2nd Amendment was NOT meant for assault weapons. It is IDIOTS like you that say stupid stuff like that that proves our case. Let’s see, the 2nd Amendment CLEARLY DOES SAY it is there to assure a free state and to keep the government “in check”. Just what kind of weapons did they have back then? Pretty much limited to muskets and cannons. Got news for ya hun… those WERE the “assault weapons” of that time! How is anyone supposed to guarantee the freedom of state or keep the government “in check” by having a musket when technology advanced? So you are saying if it really came down to an actual civil war between the people of the free states and the federal government, they are supposed to fight SWAT teams that have M60 and M2 machine guns, granades, helicopters, advanced weaponry with what… muskets? Well, thiose were the weapons of the day weren;t they? That’s what you are telling us they are talking about? You freakin’ idiot! Besides, get this straight; “assault weapons” were designed for the department of DEFENSE. Therefore they are DEFENSE WEAPONS… NOT assault weapons, so get your facts and terminology straight hun before you look even more like an idiot!

“The second amendment was not meant to include assault rifles, or to protect the ‘right’ of the mentally ill to have guns.”
Anne, how is it you know that the 2nd amendment was not meant to include assault rifles? Were you there when the Bill of Rights was written? Or do you base it on some concept that you are elite, more intelligent, BETTER than those of us who believe the 2nd Amendment means exactly what it says? As for the mentally ill: whose subjective evaluation of mental condition? Yours? Obamas? Psychiatrists? Anyone who is half-way educated knows that psychiatry is an inexact science, and therefore the perfect weapon to turn on anyone one does not agree with the agenda of those who would take away our freedom in order to amplify their power. Power is an aphrodisiac: men and women will do much harm to acquire it, including twist the words of the Constitution to fit their own ends.

  • Re: my comment in reply to anne:
“the perfect weapon to turn on anyone one does not agree with the agenda of those who would take away our freedom in order to amplify their power.”
Excuse my very poorly written sentence. It should say something more like,
“the perfect weapon to turn on anyone who does not agree with the agenda of those who wish to take away our freedom in order to amplify their power.”

If you think a handgun ban sounds like a good way to stop all the sensless killing, take a month to visit Mexico, where they live in blissfilled peace without fear or knowledge of violence thanks to their ban on guns. If you think no honest citizen has need of an “assault” rifle, take a trip out to the old farm and see what twenty or thirty hoggs can do to a plowed and planted field. Someone invested time and money on that land and needs the means to keep it free of pests same as a citizen in town uses a fog bomb to rid a home or office of pests. The only difference I see is that thirty roaches can’t kill you or your family members or pets.

As a CA Republican, I researched NC State Sen. RC Soles, Jr, voting record 1999 to present and found NO ANTI-GUN votes. I believe in all fairness that the writer of this blog should either present some definite information of anti-gun bias or admit they wrote without facts. Soles voted for “Reciprocal Concealed Handgun w/other states” (2003), “Lawful Firearms Activity Protected” (2001), & “Firearms Regulation Amendments” (2002). All these laws provided protection of NC firearm owners. Compared to the Democrats (Demons) out here, NC Pols seem reasonable.

WOW, you seem almost lucid for someone who’s 218 years old! Because you’d have to be 218 to have been there in 1791 and been a part of the discussion to know what was thought & expressed beyond the very very clear ……….. A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.

Outlaw guns and only Outlaws will have them.

One day forty politicians showed up at the pearly gates and asked to be let into heaven. Since no politician had ever tried to get in before St. Peter didn’t know waht to do. He went to God and explained his problem and God told him to let them in if they were worthy. St. Peter left, but returned a few minutes later and said “they’re gone”. God asked “the politicians are gone?” St. Peter said “No, the pearly gates.”

  • Don Park

It is easy to see that with everything our Political Leaders do they are excluded from the laws. They will not be a part of the health care plan. They will continue to have their armed body guards. Federal employees will recieve pay raises and benefit increases when the rest of the country goes without.(I know some are refusing to take the raises and giving them to charities),but, why should they be recieving raises in our present economy. They will use the Constitution when it is to their advantage and they will try to change it when it is not. They will call our men and women in our Military “high risk” for gun ownership when they return from defending our country. They will also call people that have served this country (by risking their lifes) “Right wing terrorist”. How many of these great leaders or their family members have actually served in the military to defend our country. Does anyone really believe that the draft was dropped to make a “voluntary military” or was it to keep the politicians sons and daughters out of “harms way”. I know there are some of them that serve, but, the number is in the minority and not the majority. We use the people in the lower income and poorer class to fight these wars, because, those are the people that are a hardship on the wealth of the wealthy. This garbage about insuring the poor is not to benefit the people without insurance, but, about breaking the working class. There is no way they can insure an additional 50 Million people and not have increases in health care cost on the people that are working and paying for these programs. They talk about a “fix” on health care. That was the idea when they started Social Security and Medicade and Medicare. Then our great leaders opened the programs as welfare programs and gave it away to people that never paid. These programs are broke, because, our politicians broke them. They were not even a part of the programs until 1988 so it made no difference to them what they did with the money. They even borrowed money from Social Security and never paid it back. We have people that are recieving health care that are not even U.S. citizens. Where do you think that money comes from? The idea of taking away our guns is so that they can better control the people.(Of course they will never admit that). We have 35 Terrorist camps operating and training terrorist everyday right here in the United States and our Government is allowing it to go on (why). The President himself is forming a 250,000 group Voluntary Militia that will be better trained and more powerful than our own Military (why). He has Czars that answer only to him and that have been tied to the most violent groups ever operating in this Country (why). Do you really think they want our weapons to make for a safer place to live? America had better wake up.

The response to national disaster is great but it’s a damn shame that so many citizens take advantage of the sad situations.

I mean everytime there is an earthquake, a flood, an oil spill – there’s always a group of heartless people who rip off tax payers.

This is in response to reading that 4 of Oprah Winfreys “angels” got busted ripping off the system. Shame on them!

well its left wing progressives like Anne, which are the destruction of all rights in this country. Also i have read the 2nd Ammendment a few times, and it does not spell out that we are not any certain type of rifle, and if You choose to live together with everyone, (so cute) in some type of hippie compound, have fun. I will keep my Assault rifle close, just to be certain i dont need 911 10 minutes after i have been robbed and killed.

  • I thought that was really interesting. Thanks for the great information. I’ll keep an eye on this.
