AZ sheriff tells citizens to arm themselves
An Arizona Sheriff has told citizens to arm themselves, that the police cannot protect them from Mexican drug traffickers illegally crossing the border.
Along the border, fears are growing that the escalating drug violence in Mexico will spill into the United States.
Last month, a well-known rancher was murdered in southeastern Arizona. Authorities suspect an illegal immigrant did it.
The murder prompted governors in New Mexico and Texas to send forces to the border. This week, the Mexican government sent dozens of police and soldiers to the Juarez Valley to restore order.
For many on both sides of the border, the fear is very real.
‘Arm Yourselves’
Last week, residents held a town-hall meeting in Fort Hancock, Texas — a sleepy agricultural town on the border, about an hour southeast of El Paso, that looks like the bleak set of No Country for Old Men.
A couple hundred people crowded into the grade-school gym to hear a chilling message from Hudspeth County Sheriff Arvin West.
“You farmers, I’m telling you right now, arm yourselves,” he said. “As they say the old story is, it’s better to be tried by 12 than carried by six. Damn it, I don’t want to see six people carrying you.” [Emphasis added]
Time for this country to get rid of the antiquated gun laws. Let everyone over 18 carry a sidearm in whatever manner they feel comfortable (concealed carry, open carry). As they saying goes, “When guns are outlawed, only the outlaws will have guns!
We need a few more sheriffs like that one.
Personal safety is an individual’s responsibility. Police agencies have no legal responsibility for a citizen’s well-being. Too many people don’t know that.
We need to establish the strictest of background checks on gun owners, only for the reason that We The People need the ability to stay armed, and Ensuring on those law abiding citizens are armed in hopes that this country is safe again and its not. the gov’t has no control just as the sheriff said. but if this sheriff by any chance reads this, RUN FOR PRESIDENT CAUSE YOU ALREADY HAVE MY VOTE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Wow, I wish more law enforcement officers would tell their citizens to arm themselves! Steve, I am close to your idea, but wish we had a lot more, not just a few more sherriffs like that one. I agree, encourage all citizens over 18 to carry concealed or open. When everyone is carrying and the playing field is leveled, the crime will go down. Criminals want an easy fight, not a fair one.

We have the right to defend ourselves! All honest citizens have the right to carry a firearm, concealed or otherwise. Let’s vote out the lawmakers that are taking away our rights.
This is no different than anywhere else, law enforcemnt can’t be everywhere, so it is up to you to protect yourself & family. It will only get worse with the spread of drug dealers, drug users, criminla illegals, & gangs. If the liberals have their way the only ones who will be protected will be politcians , entertainers, & rich people.

…and what about people who made mistakes in their past and are felons, even though it was 17 years ago, and no legal trouble since, are we not afforded the same right to protect ourselves and our families?? Let’s say I am your neighbor and I happen to see some cartel ( or any unsavory character ) breaking into your house, so I get my “illegal” gun and come to your rescue. Would you still condemn me for having a gun since I made that mistake 17 years ago?? Or would you thank me and say, ” Thank God some folks have the courage to break the “law” and uphold their “Right to keep and bear arms”?
