A seventy-year-old veteran was dropping off his friend when two strangers pulled up next to his car.

The strange men began asking for directions, but once the vet began to answer, one of the men drew a firearm.

But the veteran was prepared, and took out his own weapon, opening fire on both suspects.

One of the thugs succumbed to his gunshot wounds. The other was injured and is in police custody.

The authorities have filed no charges against the veteran, saying that he was well within his rights.

In fact, both of the suspects were wanted for other violent crimes, and the county attorney believes that law enforcement will be able to solve possibly dozens of other armed robberies – all due to the brave, responsible action of one armed American.

Local news reports:

An armed veteran from St. Louis killed one man and injured another during an armed robbery attempt in the metro east.

But, on Friday, prosecutors said the veteran's actions are justified, and could help solve dozens of other violent crimes in Illinois and Missouri.

Madison County State’s Attorney Tom Gibbons said this case should serve as a warning to criminals. If you’re coming to the Metro East to break the law, you could end up staring down the barrel of a gun.

Her uncle was in the veteran’s hospital, and she decided to go by his home and make sure everything was okay.

The Springfield woman said she cringes to think what might have happened if her husband hadn't pointed a gun at the man and scared him off.
