Washington D.C. – The National Association for Gun Rights is urging every Member of Congress to oppose H.R. 8, a so-called “Universal Background Check” bill that is being brought back from the 116^th Congress.

“It’s not surprising that Biden’s lackeys Nancy Pelosi and her contingent of anti-gun Democrats are pushing this heinous gun control bill again,” said Dudley Brown, President of the National Association for Gun Rights.

So-called Universal Background Checks are thinly veiled gun registration and are unconstitutional, ineffective, and unenforceable.

“This is just the first of many assaults on the Second Amendment the Biden administration is calling for,” said Brown, “and even with 100% compliance, such a law will not stop individuals with ill intent from getting a firearm if they have no criminal record.”

Successful implementation of a Universal Background Check law requires a firearms registry.

Background checks under the current law are already de facto gun registration, and with every transfer of a firearm being documented on an ATF Form 4773, the government would have access to a list of every firearm purchased through a dealer, who purchased it, what they look like, and where they live.

Up to 95% of NICS denials are false positives, denying law abiding Americans from purchasing firearms. Expanding NICS through H.R. 8 will lead to more unjustified denials.

The National Association for Gun Rights opposes H.R. 8 and all efforts to expand background checks (i.e. gun registration) on firearms purchases.
