National Association for Gun Rights Fights Gun Bills in Maine to Bitter End

Apr 18, 2024

Augusta, ME – On the legislature’s last day of session, several gun control bills were passed out of the House and Senate at the 11th hour, but the “Red Flag” Gun Confiscation bill, LD 2283, was never brought up for a vote.

“While the Legislature has passed several egregious anti-gun bills, we are proud of the fact that our members and supporters turned out and defeated Speaker Rachel Talbot Ross’ “Red Flag” Gun Confiscation bill,” said Angelo Veltri, Northeast Regional Director for National Association for Gun Rights.

LD 2283, the “Red Flag” bill was introduced late in March, roughly two weeks before the Second Regular Session of the Maine Legislature was set to end.

While that bill was not brought up for a vote, other gun bills such as 72-hour waiting periods, enhanced background checks, and a ban on bump stocks were passed and are now off to the Governor’s desk.

“We’re going to be back next year and we’re not going to stop fighting for Mainers’ Second Amendment rights, starting by exposing the politicians this election cycle who voted for gun control,” said Dudley Brown, President of the National Association for Gun Rights.

The National Association for Gun Rights is expecting more gun control bills to be filed next year and is watching closely to see if a “Red Flag” bill comes up again.

The National Association for Gun Rights is the nation’s largest “no compromise” pro-gun organization, with 4.5 million members nationwide.
