Special Legislative Session Needed to Pass Constitutional Carry

Florida Gun Rights is calling on Gov. DeSantis to call a special session in order to pass Constitutional Carry

Tallahassee, FL — Florida Gun Rights, the state affiliate of the National Association for Gun Rights, is urging Governor Ron DeSantis to call for a special legislative session in order to pass Constitutional Carry.

The Florida legislature failed to advance HB 103 during the 2022 regular session even with 26 legislators on record in support of Constitutional Carry. The bill was killed by Rep. Chuck Brannan, Chair of the House Public Safety and Criminal Justice Subcommittee.

“We are being left far behind other pro-gun states which are passing Constitutional Carry and repealing gun control,” said Matt Collins, Director of Legislation for Florida Gun Rights. “Ohio and Indiana passed their Constitutional Carry bills already – and Georgia is slated to pass their bill soon. Nebraska might even get Constitutional Carry passed before the summer arrives. Yet our legislators refuse to restore the Second Amendment rights of law-abiding Floridians.”

Governor DeSantis is supportive of the legislation, and has gone on record twice saying he would sign Constitutional Carry into law — even calling for the legislature to put it on his desk.

Three state legislators have publicly called for a special session — Representatives Jason Fischer, Anthony Sabatini, and Michelle Salzman. Rep. Sabatini was the primary bill sponsor of Constitutional Carry during the regular session.

“It’s time to get this done. If Florida passes Constitutional Carry into law, millions of Americans will have their gun rights restored and our state will become a safer place to live,” concluded Collins.

As of today 24 states have passed some form of Constitutional Carry into law.

Constitutional Carry is the straightforward law that any law-abiding adult who is legally able to possess a handgun should be able to carry that handgun openly, or concealed, without first having to pay a tax or obtain a government permit.
